Lost the labels for the sound box a while ago so I made some handwritten notes.
This project may never go anywhere, but, we did some exploratory disassembly ...
I’m digging this open top speedster look.
Before it gets any power upgrades, it’s going to need a seat belt and a collapsible steering column ...
No wonder it’s so slow ...
Also needs some rubber tires ... but man look at that poke.

That looks like a serious Oppo training ground. He’s even got it up on the lift!!!
Good luck w/the project. My nephew has taken a few of those non-working cars and replaced the batteries and did some minor work, nearly all were running again.

Looks like a solid body to start a project. Black seats with houndstooth inserts are probably a good idea. And get that certificate of Authenticity!

The Milwaukee 18v batteries work great in those Power wheels. I had a setup in my boys corvette that had a reostat to adjust down the voltage off the full 18v and it didn’t take long before my 3 YO had it dialed all the way up. I had a battery voltage cutoff in there as well and something broke in the cutoff or the voltage regulator and I ended up bypassing it all and ran the battery right to the car.
I have since replaced the voltage cutoff( to save my Milwaukee batteries from discharging too low) and works like a charm.
My kids been practicing his oppo ever since. And the batteries last a while. The 4.0 ah pack will get him about a 20-30 mins drive time at WOT till the cutoff kicks in at 16.5 volts. There’s a YouTube out there with all the particulars for the build if you’re interested. I highly recommend it. And no real issue with the stock motors, we’ve burned through 2-3 batteries almost back to back and no issues with the motors giving up.

If you can ever find one in a junkyard, then it’d be sweet to upgrade the steering wheel to one out of a NA Miata. Sometimes you can find them for cheap on Miata groups/forums since people like swapping them out for non-airbag aftermarket wheels. You could even rig the horn buttons to control other things!

G reat resource, thanks! I’ve been thinking of doing something like that once he gets a little more comfortable driving it. I've been encouraging him to get it up to full speed in its stock setup first, then if he wants to go faster we can hotrod it.

Careful which seat belts you install. Some are not fit for purpose:

Yeah, it’ll be fun for sure. After you have it turned all the way up to 11, it’s really tough to scale it back down to the regular 12v setting, it’s just too slow. But the voltage adjuster worked well for that task. I’m just glad I can use my batteries I already own instead of messing around with the power wheels ones. Bonus is that it makes the car fly too. Good luck with your project, you’re doing Dadding right.
